London Tours and Essentials for UK Visits

Seeing London whether on foot, by bus or by tube is the most important thing for most foreign visitors to the UK. And can you blame them? There are museums, art galleries and impressive architecture. And as the host of the forthcoming Olympic Games, it is the perfect destination for sports lovers. Most visitors prefer to embark on London tours in order to see the city, but there are plenty of different options to choose from.

One option is one of the London tours by bus. As a relatively inexpensive tour which gives a good background of London, this is a great tour. Bus tours also normally work on a hop on hop off basis which allows users to get off the bus at several stop and explore the area before getting back on the bus later. Usually, tickets are valid for a whole day or two days so that passengers can make the most of the experience.

Unfortunately many of the London tours are the same as each other and it isn’t uncommon for people to feel that they are rather unoriginal. For these people buying a tour guide and getting acquainted with the tube is possibly a better idea. Planning London tours yourself in small groups with fellow travellers allows you to see things which you might not have otherwise.

But what about doing more than London tours. Relatively few visitors to the UK go further afield and visit other cities. Many London tours companies offer tours of the entire UK, which can last from just a couple of days to a week or a fortnight. Anybody who is visiting the UK and who has a while to stay should certainly consider the possibility of taking a longer tour and seeing the other cities and countryside on offer.

London Hotel Breaks

London is one of the hottest hotel breaks destinations in the world and annually many thousands of tourists visit the British capital city. London has hundreds of years of history, stunning historical buildings and of course lots of entertaining attractions, even the queen lives there.

One of the toughest things to find in London is a good quality hotel at a low-cost price. If you want to be in the heart of all the action then you would ordinarily have to pay a lot more for than you would if you were staying 5 miles away. The secret is to try and locate a hotel that strikes the correct equilibrium between the price and location.

There are umpteen expensive 4 and 5 star hotels throughout the center of London that could cost you a lot of money unless you check around and take a few simple steps.

To start with make sure that your visit does not take place in the middle of any major events in London as the cheaper hotels will in all likelihood be reserved for these dates well beforehand. So do not pick any dates where there is a cup final on at wembley stadium or any other big event. A quick check on the official London council web site will give you a list of annual events.

It could be that you are travelling to London for a major event and are having problems finding lodgings at any property. There is a potential solution by using the internet site Hotel Breaks as they have additional rooms to sell by many of the London hotels. Even when the hotel itself has sold out Hotel Breaks could still have rooms left.

If you have any friends or relatives in or near London as it could be a good idea to ask if they have any localized knowledge of a suitable hotel that you may stay at. The important thing is to shop around and make sure you get accommodation that is not along way away. You do not want to be using your holiday time and cash going to where you really wanted to be in the first place

A Short Introduction To Skye Vacations

The island of Skye is the most suitable vacation destination for walkers and water sports enthusiasts. Situated amongst a collection of islands known as the Inner Hebrides a vacation on Skye is an incredible and unique experience. A large number of folk visit the Scottish Highlands to experience the spectacular countryside and many tourists agree that the Inner Hebrides feature the finest and most majestic. In the following article I examine at some of the reasonswhy the Isle of Skye is such a great place to take a short break.

Places To Visit On Skye

Although it is not actually located on the island no visit would be utterly complete without having a day trip to Eilean Donan Castle. One of Scotland’s most photographed monuments the castle has also appeared in numerous movies including the 1985 cult classic “Highlander”. The castle is privately owned but, for a fee , you are allowed to wander about the well equipped castle or attend a guided tour. The castle is only 15 minutes from the Skye Bridge.

The only true mountain range in the British Isles is The Cuillin which provide challenging opportunities for mountain climbing . In total the rough Black Cuillins features twelve munros with Sgurr Alasdair being the highest at 992 m (3,255 ft).

The Isle of Skye only has two Corbetts  (Glamaig is the highest) and both are situated in the Red Hills. The Black Cuillin are bare rock at their summits whereas the Red Hills (often incorrectly called the Red Cuillin)  are much gentler having flora to the very summit .

If you want to indulge in climbing please seek some advice as it can often be immensely dangerous, especially if you are ill equipped. Too many people find themselves in difficult circumstances following a swift shift in the weather, always plan for the worst. You can access the Black Cuillin from Glen Brittle and the Red Hills from Glen Sligachan.

Skye attractions are the Talisker distillery, the Glendale Toy Museum, Colbost Croft Museum, Bright Water Visitor Centre, Giant Macaskill Museum, Skye Museum of Island Life, Armadale Castle Gardens and Museum of the Isles and Dunvegan Castle. The stronghold of the Macleods of Dunvegan and Harris, Dunvegan Castle, is dramatically set upon a cliff-top. The Isle of Skye has a mild climate and is much more green than most islands in Scotland and this is made abundantly clear in the fantastic gardens of the castle , you will also find a restaurant and craft shop which help make it ideal for a day out.

Overlooking the Isle of Raasay, Broadford is a seaside village which features several much needed facilities but is also rather nice location to spend a couple of hours. Broadford has some amazing sea views however the number one port of call should be the small, but incredibly interesting, Skye Serpentarium Reptile World where it is possible to indulge in some hands on experience!

Skye hotels appear here there and everywhere and it is rather easy to find one but finding a free room is  a different story altogether. It is well worth the effort to make your bookings as early as possible when you do please take a look at our listings of Isle of Skye hotel accommodation .

Vacations In South Uist, Scotland

The Isle of South Uist is situated in the group of islands known as the Outer Hebrides (and also the Western Isles of Scotland. The inhabited islands are Isle of Lewis, South Uist, North Uist, Harris, Benbecula, Barra and Eriskay plus several hundred other islands which are uninhabited. In the article below I discuss the Isle of South Uist and explain why the island is such a superb place to take a vacation, plus I suggest some places to stay on South Uist.

The Western Isles are unique, they have totally unique types of flora and fauna in a spectacular environment with some of the most dramatic coastline in the United Kingdom of Great Britain. The culture in the islands is a complex blend of influences from the Norse, Gaelic and Celtic, which could also be said to be unique.

On the island of South Uist, particularly in the west, you will discover the most amazing beaches and a little inland vast areas of land called machair. Machair is unique to this part of the world, it is a kind of immensely fertile, grassland which has masses of wildflowers in spring and summer. Many tourist believe that the beaches found on South Uist are the finest in the country, Britain, and even Europe.

The island is also an incredible venue to enjoy a round of golf. Askernish Golf Course is the oldest course in the Outer Hebrides and it is an Old Tom Morris design (the designer of St Andrews’ Old Course) and countless others in the country. Sadly the golf course was damaged and it requires restoration before it can be once again played upon but you will find many other places to play golf across the islands.

Of course South Uist offers masses of opportunities to enjoy a diverse range of sports. Water sports such as surfing are incredibly popular and virtually everyone can enjoy a little rambling. Other than golf the most popular sport is still fishing though more cyclists appear every year.

Although the island doesn’t feature an impressive amount of galleries and museums it has enough to keep visitors entertained during wet weather. Places such as Kildonan Museum focus upon the islands history and the islands association with Prince Charles Edward Stuart and Flora MacDonald.

Places To Stay On South Uist

Polochar Inn is situated in Lochboisdale in the southerly part of the island. This is a 4 star rated South Uist hotel which looks out over to Eriskay and Barra. All rooms are en-suite and they all feature Wi-Fi.

Self catering on South Uist is superb for small groups and families. 10 Bun A Mhullin is a roomy self catering traditional Hebridean house/cottage on the Isle of Eriskay which is joined to South Uist by a bridge.
